ECM605 GSM/UMTS (2/3G) Electronic Countermeasures Unit
A jammer covering the (E)GSM900, GSM1800 and UMTS2100 bands. It transmits modulated RF that sweeps the download channels, thus corrupting vital control information and so blocking the handset's operation.
ECM605 Description
Operation of the unit is simple. One switch activates the unit and allows you to select the appropriate output power. An internal switch allows the user to select operation on GSM, 3G/UMTS or both bands.
The easy to use ECM605 is a small portable unit capable of securing areas of up to 20m in radius. The exact range will vary according to a number of factors including proximity to a relevant base station, local propagation conditions and type of antenna used with the unit.
Manufacturer's Description (PDA Electronics Ltd)The ECM605 GSM/UMTS (2/3G) Electronic Countermeasure Unit:
- Covers EGSM900, GSM1800, UMTS2100
- Microprocessor-based control
- Automatic self-calibration for reliability
- Synthesiser controlled oscillators with Digital Sweep
- Signal Waveforms optimised for mobile phone jamming
- Uses an external antenna, which may be omnidirectional (supplied as standard) or narrow-beam
- Two output power selections
- Two AA cells give up to 20 hours operation
- LED indicates operation and battery status
- May be powered externally
Switching on and blockingSlide the Power switch to either Lo or Hi to activate at the desired power level. The Blue On indicator will identify that the unit is active. The Batt LED will indicate Green if battery voltage is OK but will turn to Red if the batteries need replacing.Antenna optionsThe unit comes as standard with an omni-directional stubby antenna. This antenna gives good around coverage and is the most convenient for most general purpose uses such as personal protection or safeguarding small rooms.Other antenna are available to increase usage of the unit. Please contact us for more details.Control portOn the side of the unit is a 3.5mm stereo jack socket. This can be used to activate the product upon detection of various criteria. For instance a 196D can be used to detect a mobile phone signal and identify which type of phone system is being used. This can then be used to trigger the 605 to transmit it’s countermeasure signal.Ground “tip” for 2G only jamming
Ground ”ring” for 3G/UMTS only jamming
ECM605 Specifications
Manufacturer's Description (PDA Electronics Ltd)
Blocking
(E)GSM 925-960 MHz
GSM1800 1805-1880 MHz
3G(UMTS) 2110-2170 MHz
Output Power: Hi: 100mW (+20dBm)
Lo: 25mW (+14dBm)
The GSM output is time multiplexed between the bands, whilst the UMTS signal is continuous.
Spurious outputs: -110dBrc/Hz at ±5MHz
Power
Internal: two AA (LR6) cells, alkaline or NiMH.
External: 4.5–16V DC at 250mA max via 1.3mm co-ax power jack (pin +ve: reverse protected).
Note that while this is compatible with 12V car batteries, care must be taken to ensure that the input voltage is limited, as spikes from automotive systems may damage the equipment.
When the external power input is connected, the internal batteries are isolated; they are not charged from the external source.
“Batt” LED: changes to Red at 2.1V (1.05V per cell).
Blocking time: 10 hrs typical (full power), 20 hrs typical (low power).
Operating range
The main factor affecting the range of the unit is the proximity and power of the base station / mast to which the phone is registered. Typical range is 10 – 20* metres using the small stubby antenna.
Using alternate antennas which focus the signal into more specific areas increases the effective range of the unit.
The directional 918 antenna for instance can increase the operational range to 80* metres.
* The exact range depending on a variety of factors such distance to a relevant base station (Mast), its radiating power and local propagation conditions.
External Amplifiers
The output of the ECM605 may be fed into a power amplifier if several watts of jamming power is needed.
Note: When both bands are used simultaneously, the output power is split between them and intermodulation products will be present. In-band(s) returm loss of the amplifier should be better than 2:1 at 50 ohms.
Temperature
Range for normal operation: -10 to +50°C.
Physical
Size: 120 x 64 x 22mm.
Weight: 130g with battery.
Case: ABS to UL94-HB; IP45.
WARNING
The use of mobile phone jamming equipment is illegal or restricted in many parts of the world. This unit is sold or supplied on the basis that the end user is fully responsible for meeting any such local requirements.
It is the manufacturer's policy to supply this equipment only to government, military or law-enforcement agencies.
