GSM 184X description
GSM phones are getting ever smaller and are increasingly being used in areas where they may compromise security. This technology is also becoming the preferred medium for bugs and other surveillance devices.
To combat these problems the GSM184 mobile phone detector is detects activity from GSM-based transceivers, alerting personnel to any threat.
The GSM184 is especially suitable:
- for use by security personnel in Government establishments, military bases, and prisons;
- in commercial applications such as banking, dealing rooms, and design offices;
- for security companies who need to sweep premises for concealed surveillance devices.
GSM184 Features
Sensitivity and detection ranges
You can set the GSM184’s sensitivity to match the area to be scanned.
An internal switch allows you to choose either long or short range settings. You can then select one of three sweeping sensitivities using the front panel switch (see table).
This lets you detect GSM phones or surveillance units not only in variously sized rooms but also over much larger areas.
Display
The GSM184 has two distinct display areas.
The Alarm area consists of two blue LEDs which indicate separately the detection of GSM calls and GSM network transmissions.
• During the actual alarm the relevant LED will flash rapidly.
• When the alarm condition has passed, that LED will flash slowly until the On / Reset switch is pressed.
The Sensitivity area lets you select one of three sub-ranges by pressing the switch until the desired range setting is shown. Once set, the relevant LED flashes slowly to show that the unit is on and scanning.
Uses
The GSM184 can be left in a room, on the low range setting, to check for active mobiles. Even on standby, all mobile phones poll their nearest base station at least once an hour, and we can detect this network signal. Using the minimum range limits the scan to the targeted room.
The unit can also be deployed overnight in prisons to check if illicit phones are being used. When a transmission is detected, officers can then use other PDA products, such as the GSM185, to locate its source.
Other applications are on military bases and in government buildings. Mobile phones are increasingly being used to trigger explosives, and the GSM184 can give advance warning that such a trigger device may be active within a specified area.
