GPS/GSM Tracking Threat

satellite

The threat from combined GPS (global positioning satellite) and GSM systems has also increased greatly over the last few years. GPS receivers have become very sensitive and the technology for acquiring GPS positions has become very advanced allowing GPS information to be received even when no direct line of sight with the sky is possible. The cost of these systems has also come down; it is possible to buy a GPS tracker no bigger than a key ring employing the latest GPS circuits for around £30.

If these systems if combined with the many free mapping software programs available make it possible to plot a target using data collected from a GPS device and plotted using free mapping software.

Vehicle deployed tracking devices combine GPS (global positioning satellite) with GSM technology are able to live track a vehicle or asset that has been installed with this type of equipment. The GPS element of the device acquires satellite fixes to gives the precise position of the target every few seconds or minutes. The GSM circuits within the device are used to send the GPS information to the eavesdropper or third party.

The person carrying out the surveillance simply dials into the device and is able to live track the target using the GPS information sent from the device. This GPS information is overlaid onto mapping software to give live information on the precise location of then target vehicle or asset under surveillance.

Many GPS/GSM devices also employ audio monitoring capabilities and if a microphone is installed within the vehicle it is possible to have a device that is capable of live and historical GPS tracking and also has the function of monitoring audio from inside of the target vehicle. The global nature of GSM and GPS technology make this type of monitoring possible from any location in the world with a suitable telecommunications connection.

Executive vehicles are the biggest targets for GPS and GSM based bugging equipment. QCC Interscan has extensive experience carrying out searches of all types of executive vehicles in many global locations.
